READINGreading in bed

Baby Girl loves to read.  I often find her in bed with a book.  She reaches through the crib to the bookshelf, picks the closest beginning reader and pulls it back in the crib.  She’ll lay there with one or two books for an hour or more, reading and talking.  My heart is ticked to find her like this.  On special occasions I’ve even climbed in a read the book to her. Yes, really.  Me and her in the crib.

I just finished a novel The 13th Tribe by Robert Liparulo. A modern day thriller of immortal vigilantes who interact with mere mortals.  They call themselves the 13th Tribe of Israel since they were left to live endlessly on earth after worshiping the golden calf while waiting for Moses at the base of Mt Sinai.  Liparulo weaves 3500 years of life with bible story, science and history into characters you ache for.

One of the concepts that stuck with me was from the protagonist Jagger.  He is challenged with the difference between believing God and loving God.  He puts himself physically close to godly things in hopes he can reclaim the deep calming presence of God.

I believe in Him, but can I say I’m in love with Him. Our English word love is complex, This video from Rob Bell looks at three Hebrew words from the Song of Songs that mean love (text version).  The first is raya, translated as a friend or companion.  Yes, I can say I raya my Lord.  He is my friend, a safe place to speak and calming place to listen.  The second Hebrew word is ahava, this communicates a choice of will…a commitment.  Yes, I can say I ahava my Lord more often.  My ahava (and raya) love grows when I choose Him over me (lots of intentionality needed here).  The third is dode, a physical and intimate relationship…..  Maybe a tiny yes, I dode my Lord.  Honestly this love freaks me out a little a lot.  I keep asking Him to unfold His dode love to me layer by layer.

I take a ton of pictures.  I struggle to unload them off the camera or my phone.  My goal is to post one picture and at least one word each week.  So at the end of the year I have 52 edited pictures and a few words to remind us what we savored.  Here’s to adding some structure to this new life.

BUNTINGNora's bunting

A what?  A bunting.  Per Dictionary.com a light cotton used for making flags or a group of flags.  The bunting is only printed on one side.  The back is various canvas samples from the JoAnne discount bin.  I started with a template from Pink Suede Shoe and folded the top down 1 3/4″ for more of a half circle.  This tutorial even takes you through smoothing the round edges and binding, great resource.

The small circle garland is super easy and the perfect whimsical counterpart to the semi-circle bunting.  I just cut around two 1″ circles (backs together) with pinking sheers and ran them through the sewing machine back to back. Turnberry @ Benedict's

Baby girl will be turning one two weeks, so we’ve been crafting and planning a fun day to celebrate her.

He said I should write.

The other day the Lord said “you should write”.  I said “I’m not a writer.  My neighbor, Made For This, now she is a writer”.  I tend to tell God things He already knows…and actually created.  None the less He told me to write.  So, the next question is what will I write about?  The only answer I have is: what is in my head.  As I write this my mind is racing with words and images on what writing for me is.  The problem isn’t inspiration.  The problem is the practice of reproducing what’s in my head…..outside my head.

This morning I had set some time aside to be with God, just the two of us.  When I started to think of all the ways to spend my very own 2 hours my mind was flooded with cleaning, pinning, sewing, reading, sleeping.  I settled on a showering, a luxury as a mom, and a place where I not only think but find perspective/direction.  Side note: check out Gary Molander’s post titled Taking Long Showers that talks about the link between showers and creativity.

After my 20 minute shower I had an idea of how the morning would look.  I need structure, to much go with the flow means I have to buy new pants, so I have a plan of sorts.

  1. Make long meetings with the Lord more consistent = take my Tuesday nights and Thursday mornings back (whenever possible).
  2. Start the time with a shower + time to journal/write afterwards = being clean before the Lord (profound).
  3. Transfer anything from head to the world somewhere.

This is not a all inclusive, but a place for me to start.  And typing is writing….right?

COMPANIONSHIP
Huzband has a job that is unpredictable, driving me nuts, but it also has some perks.  Like morning nap times where we can both work in the same room.  Companionship.
